Tatcha’s third counter, is now open at Harbour City Lane Crawford. The new store feature elements inspired by Kyoto such as gold leaf, light wood, and architectural elements inspired by traditional natsume, jars used in traditional tea ceremonies, and a shape commonly found in the brand’s packaging.  Tatcha’s signature shade of purple is layered into the setting through various elements.

Each location will be staffed by Tatcha Beauty Advisors trained on the Japanese concept of omoiyari, meaning consideration and kindness toward others—a core value for the brand.  Our Customer Love Team will provide one-on-one consultations and product education. Additional counter services and treatments will be added throughout the year.

As a nod to the importance of gift-giving in both the company and Japan’s culture, the retail space also includes a gifting display with customizable sets available year-round. Tatcha will also remain available locally in Hong Kong SAR through a partnership with Joyce Beauty.

A curated assortment of  Tatcha’s  award-winning  product offerings will be available at both locations, including the bestselling Pure One Step Cleansing Oil, The Rice Polish, The Silk Cream and The Essence, a plumping skin softener made up of 98.7% Hadasei-3, Tatcha’s proprietary double- fermented complex of Uji green tea, Okinawa algae, and Akita rice. This ferment, composed of the same superfoods credited with Japanese longevity, is the cornerstone of every Tatcha formula.

Tatcha is a celebration of classical Japanese beauty culture, from Kyoto to San Francisco. In 2008, Vicky Tsai encountered centuriesold beauty rituals in Kyoto and a philosophy of care and harmony that forever altered her life. Founded the following year, Tatcha remasters timeless Japanese beauty preparations into clean, luxurious rituals of self-care that invite you into the moment and back to yourself. The starting point of every Tatcha item is a proprietary ingredient complex called Hadasei-3. Crafted entirely in Japan by scientists at the Tatcha Institute, each gently effective formula features kind-to-skin ingredients to nurture beauty for a lifetime and work within a larger framework of well-being and harmony.

Because Tatcha believes that beauty begins in the heart and the mind, every purchase supports girls’ education around the world through the brand’s Beautiful Faces, Beautiful Futures program. Started in 2014, it operates in partnership with Room to Read, one of the world’s leading literacy nonprofit organizations, to provide schooling and life skills.

ABOUT THE FOUNDER

In 2008, Vicky Tsai encountered centuries-old beauty rituals in Kyoto and a philosophy of care and harmony that forever altered her life. The acute dermatitis that had plagued her for years healed, and so did she. Profoundly changed by the experience, she devoted herself to understanding these small miracles and sharing them with others.
Following Tatcha’s founding in 2009, she convened leading skincare scientists and cultural researchers from Japan to create the Tatcha Institute in Tokyo—the company’s R&D heart where innovation works in harmony with tradition. Creating beauty rituals for modern life, she innovates within tradition to help people reconnect with themselves from skin to soul. Her work at Tatcha earned her the WWD Beauty Inc Founder’s Award (2018) and the Cosmetic Executive Women Female Founder Award (2019). Tsai is a Wellesley College graduate with a Bachelor’s degree in Economics as well as an MBA from Harvard Business School. She currently resides in the San Francisco Bay Area with her husband and daughter.

OUR NAME

The Tatcha name is inspired by tatehana, the Japanese art of arranging just a few flowers, and chabana, flowers arranged to elevate a tea ceremony, and is meant to sound like an exhale.

GIVING BACK

Tatcha’s Beautiful Faces, Beautiful Futures Girls’ Education Program the mind, we seek to improve the self-worth of young women worldwide through schooling. Every purchase you make supports students around the world through our Beautiful Faces, Beautiful Futures program with literacy nonprofit Room to Read.
In its first six years, Tatcha’s Beautiful Faces, Beautiful Futures program funded four million days of school for girls in Bangladesh, Cambodia, India, Laos, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, and Vietnam. Beyond textbooks and classrooms, this support offers life skills coaching and mentorship to ensure a brighter, more beautiful future. Why education and why girls? Because educating a girl can break the cycle of poverty in one generation. An educated girl is less likely to marry as a child and more likely to marry later, have fewer children, earn higher wages, and support healthier and more prosperous families. Her children are 50 percent more likely to survive past the age of five, and she is twice as likely to send them to school.

ABOUT HADASEI-3™

The Japanese are known to have among the longest life expectancy of any country in the world, owing in part to a uniquely nutrient-dense diet anchored in nourishing green tea, rice, and seaweed.
Always looking to what is naturally good for the body to discover what is extraordinarily good for the skin, Tatcha made these very superfoods the cornerstone of the brand’s entire collection. Every formula starts in the fields and seas of Japan, where the Tatcha Institute works to sustainably source ingredients from the most renowned provenances.
Remastering timeless beauty secrets, the Tatcha Institute unlocks these superfoods through a process of double fermentation, yielding a powerful proprietary complex, Hadasei-3. Roughly translating to “fresh skin,” this trinity of time-tested ingredients work in harmony to deliver radiant, youthful-looking skin. Rich in lactic acid and a symphony of essential amino acids, it supports the skin’s natural moisturekeeping factors while promoting cell turnover for brighter, beautiful skin at every age.

UJI GREEN TEA
Antioxidant-rich green tea has been used for centuries to nurture the body inside and out. The time-tested botanical is rich in the polyphenol EGCG, an antioxidant that helps neutralize oxidative free radicals, detoxifying the skin, and helping to visibly reduce signs of aging. Tatcha’s green tea is sourced from Uji, the most revered matcha region in Japan.

AKITA RICE
Rich in antioxidants, including inositol and gamma oryzonal, rice has long been a staple of Japanese beauty rituals. For generations, women have bathed in rice water to keep their skin soft, smooth, and luminous. Tatcha sources rice from Akita prefecture, where pure water, fertile land, and favorable climate create the optimal conditions for a uniquely nutrient-dense grain.

OKINAWA MOZUKU ALGAE
Packed with skin-plumping polysaccharides, Mozuku algae is renowned for its remarkable moisture-retaining properties and has been used for centuries to nurture the skin and hair. BEAUTY IN BALANCE
Our Journey to Sustainable Luxury

The Japanese expression mottainai conveys regret over waste, and has inspired our formulas
from the start. But what about outside our jars, and the jars themselves? On a quest to make Tatcha sustainable inside and out, we look to mottainai once again. We are moved that it calls for a culture of caring. This feels important. We know that our peers are also trying to do better and asking the same questions. We pledge to learn openly for the benefit of everyone on this journey. We want to upend the notion that luxury and sustainability are mutually exclusive. What does sustainable luxury look like? Where do we start and how? We don’t have all the answers, but we are leading with our hearts and asking our minds to catch up. Let’s move forward together, without regret.
