Li Chi Tak, dubbed the “Godfather of Hong Kong indie comics”, started his career in 1982 by submitting his works to comic magazines. Since then, his distinctively delicate drawing style and stunning composition have won the hearts of countless comic lovers in Hong Kong, Japan, France, the United States and Europe. In celebration of his 40-year journey in comic creation, Li Chi Tak will hold In the Path exhibition at the Gallery by the Harbour in Harbour City from 30th March to 23rd April 2023, debuting his latest works on large canvas created this year, as well as a selection of his original drawings of his black-and-white comics and colourful illustrations of the past 40 years, offering visitors a fascinating journey to explore his captivating creations that manifest his persistence and passion in comics.
His latest publication In the Path artworks collection book and limited-edition souvenir items will be available for comic and art lovers to purchase on-site. An autograph meeting will be held on 1st April.
Featuring a distinctive art style, the comics of Li Chi Tak are well sought-after in Hong Kong and worldwide. In 2016, Li Chi Tak became the first Hong Kong comic artist to hold a solo exhibition, entitled “Li Chi-tak, Hong Kong Wizard”, at the prestigious Angoulême International Comics Festival in France. He was also the first Hong Kong comic artist to participate in the BD Louvre project, alongside with publishing the comic book titled Moon of the Moon.
Putting together the In the Path exhibition, Li Chi Tak has reviewed and organized his works of the past 40 years. He remarks, “It feels like going through the love-hate relationship I have had with comics in all these years.”

Li Chi Tak, dubbed the “Godfather of Hong Kong indie comics” and the “Katsuhiro Otomo of Hong Kong”, is a renowned Hong Kong comic artist who has been working in the field for over 40 years.
Li Chi Tak started his career in 1982 by submitting his works to comic magazines. In 1987, he self-published Tong Men Shao Nian, his first strikingly compelling comic book, followed by a number of well-acclaimed major works including Black Mask, Assassins, Spirit, Tian Yao Ji and K, as well as short comic stories including Selected Works of JackLCT 86-89, Eye Theatre, and Vicious. Covering different genres including fiction, martial heroes, action, romance, mystery and thriller, his works are astonishing, fascinating and amusing, offering his readers ceaseless surprises.
In 2016, Li Chi Tak became the first Hong Kong comic artist to hold a solo exhibition, entitled “Li Chi-tak, Hong Kong Wizard”, at the prestigious Angoulême International Comics Festival in France.
