For Pre-Spring 2024, Finnish design house Marimekko plays with the ideas of utilitarianism and minimalism. The collection combines sensual femininity with elevated pragmatism. Utilitarian references can be seen in modern workwear-inspired garments such as the Papaver jumpsuit and Puoli pencil skirt made from organic cotton-twill and the Mystiikka overshirt made from organic cotton chambray. Heavier material qualities are then paired with silky cupro, breezy plisse skirts and luxurious silk shirts for an entity that is easily modified from casual to formal and from crisp winter days to the first joyous moments of summer.
SEASONAL PRINTS & COLORS
For Pre-Spring 2024, Marimekko celebrates the first foliage of spring with a palette consisting of soft hues and bold primary green. Cheerful sky blue meets cherry blossom and Icelandic poppy, which are combined with harmonious earthy shades of soft whites and a touch of peat and ash.
UNIKKO 60TH ANNIVERSARY
The year 2024 will mark the 60th anniversary of Marimekko’s most iconic and globally recognized print Unikko designed by Maija Isola for Marimekko in 1964. Unikko has since become an international icon of print design and synonymous with Marimekko’s design language. For Pre-Spring 2024, the Unikko print is introduced in two completely new forms: Piirto Unikko (drawing poppy) and Heijastus Unikko (reflection poppy). The season also welcomes some of Marimekko’s other celebrated archive prints, such as geometrical Kukko ja kana (rooster and hen) by Maija Isola, Lammet (ponds) by Katsuji Wakisaka and Pilkku (dot) by Hannamari Asunta.
SEASONAL COLLECTION MATERIALS
For Pre-Spring 2024, Marimekko continues to work with organic and recycled material qualities to reduce the number of conventional materials in its collections. For example, 100 percent of the wool used in the collection is certified, responsible wool. The certification takes into account the wellbeing of the animals, workers, and the soil. The collection continues to introduce Marimekko’s latest experimentations using natural dyes, and for Pre-Spring 2024, Marimekko works with nutgall to bring a lovely shade of ivory to the Funktio Solid trousers. In addition to the Ready-to-Wear collection, the season’s accessories assortment includes recycled material qualities, for example the bag charms are made from 100 percent recycled thermoplastic rubber and hair accessories are made from 100 percent recycled acryl.
