This Christmas, Harbour City collaborates again with renowned Japanese Miniature Photographer and Mitate Artist, Tatsuya Tanaka, with his first-ever Christmas-themed art project, including “The Big Little Christmas” large-scaled outdoor installation and “Countdown to Mini-mas” Art Exhibition from 15 November 2024 to 1 January 2025.

With exceptional talent in using everyday objects to create miniature worlds that offer unique perspectives, Tatsuya Tanaka has been sharing his artworks titled MINIATURE CALENDAR online since 2011 that are widely popular among people from all over the world.  He has held over 100 exhibitions in Japan and other countries and his Instagram account has over 3.9 million followers now. This first-ever Christmas-themed collaborative art project will surely wow every visitor with Tanaka’s boundless imagination and unexpected transformation of everyday objects into large-scaled holiday scenes and Christmas calendar artworks.

“The Big Little Christmas” outdoor installation features a 28-meter-long Santa Claus working desk at the Ocean Terminal Forecourt. Selected festive miniature models of Tanaka are enlarged on the desk with 5 key photo taking zones, including the candy cane sleigh and the impressive 5-meter-high cabin made with stacked book. The Santa Claus hat also transforms into a towering 10-meter Christmas tree. “The Big Little Christmas” is the largest scale of art installation Tanaka has ever created. Guests can pose alongside larger-than-life installations and become one of the tiny human figures in Tanaka’s imaginative world.

The “Countdown to Mini-mas” Art Exhibition unveils the Christmas calendar artworks of Tanaka exclusively at Gallery by the Harbour, allowing everyone to experience his work up close — not just through pictures. 25 new festive miniature artworks await to be joyfully unfolded, each a delightful surprise. Everyday objects — cozy wool, stationary, waffle, books and more are magically transformed into a Christmas scene, playfully flipping our perceptions and turning the ordinary into the extraordinary. A cupcake morphs into a cozy wooden cabin; cotton swabs turn into snowmen; and binder clips turn into Christmas tree. Visitors can also take a Christmas ride on the enlarged Tape Dispenser sleigh!

Save the date and join us for this magical experience and immerse yourself in the creativity of Tatsuya Tanaka!
