With over 20 years of experience, renowned artist Kate Jenkins, have collaborated with some of the world’s most famous brands, including Ralph Lauren, Kate Spade, Missoni and Donna Karan etc. Back in 2007, she discovered her interest in creating artworks with food as the main theme.
From 15th January to 16th February, Gallery by the Harbour transforms into “The Art of Love Bakery” by Kate, which is the artist’s first “bakery” in Asia, to usher in the Lunar New Year and Valentine’s Day with all sorts of “pastries”.
Love is in the air inside the “bakery”. Over a thousand pieces of “delicate cakes”, “fruit tarts” and “French pastries” are recreated and handmade by the UK-based knitwear and crochet artist. Spending months to knit each individual piece, Kate aims to make use of various wool, textile, beads and colour combinations to make the “loaves” and “pastries” more realistic.
The Sweet Couple series with crocheted pastries adorned with lively facial expressions is also specifically created for this exhibition to give the “bakery” a more heart-warming and romantic atmosphere during this festive occasion. Visitors can take a look at the lively characters including Monsieur Baguette and Madame Baguette.
The “bakery” features famous local treats including “egg tarts” and “pineapple buns with butter”, for those who wish to bring home the everlasting taste of love to remember.
Here visitors can work inside an “open bakery”. Among a special set of “pastries and desserts”, large-sized props including donut cushion, pretzel glasses and also cupcake hats are also available for visitors to capture the memorable moments in the “love bakery”.
There can never be too many pastries in a bakery. Apart from knitted artworks available for sale, there will also be a claw machine containing numerous Kate’s pins and embroidered patches for visitors to bring some souvenirs home.
