For Autumn/Winter 2020-21, Emporio Armani presents a selection of pieces and accessories with a pragmatic urban spirit, crafted in an environmentally responsible way. The materials are recycled, regenerated, or organic; the shapes recall the world of workwear and the designs incorporate the brand’s icons, creating a truly comprehensive aesthetic.
The collection stands out for its use of fabric and texture, enhanced by the array of shapes and the almost exclusively black colour palette, featuring contrasting details and the R-EA logo in ecru. For men, oversized fits dominate: parkas, windbreakers, blousons, zipped jumpers, cargo trousers and dungarees are paired with boots with contrasting soles, balaclavas, padded beanies and gloves, along with backpacks and large shopper bags. The women’s range is practical yet features feminine flair, with a look that is underscored by the super-cropped hems: minimal shorts and skirts are paired with padded coats, long and thin trenches, cropped double-breasted jackets and jumpers, all accessorised with logo-detail hats, boots and padded nylon bags.
The wool used, which comes from the textile region of Prato, Italy, is “zero kilometre” – recycled from local pre-consumer textile waste and scraps; the organic cotton is grown with a low environmental impact, using non-GMO seeds and an organic growing system to fertilise the soil. Even the nylon and polyester fibres come from pre- and post-consumer waste, such as fishing nets and plastic bottles that have been recovered and recycled. Modal, a biodegradable fibre whose preparation process entails significant water and energy savings, is used to provide a soft feel to the fabrics. The materials, as well as the R-EA finishes, are all certified according to the most relevant international standards, and full transparency and traceability throughout the entire textile production chain is guaranteed for the products.
In keeping with the objective of protecting the environment, this collection comes in certified and sustainable packaging, produced using compostable materials.
Rounding off the collection is a pair of bold sunglasses with a matt black frame in regenerated plastic and lenses partly made of a bio-based material. And there is also a watch produced using sustainable materials with a strap and face in matt black with contrasting details in ecru and burgundy.
