Gallery by the Harbour presents “a + b”, the sensational Japanese artist Keigo’s first solo exhibition from 2 July to 2 August, which depicts various animal characters encountering humorous real-life conundrums in their daily lives. The exhibition title “a + b” resonates with Keigo’s design concept for all his artworks: a combination of two simple elements igniting unlimited possibilities, allowing various perceptions for each individual. Come and find out why Keigo the illustrator is such a big hit on Instagram and how his quirky and witty delivery made a name for him globally.
Keigo started off drawing as an amateur in 2012. Over the past 8 years, Keigo has created over 3000 illustrations; he has been uploading a piece of drawing every day while continuing his day job as an office worker. He let his imagination ran wild, exploring the boundless world of art creations. He continued to extract his philosophy into simplistic drawings day by day, slowly gaining attention from all over the world.
He has gradually gained popularity and become an Instagram sensation, with over 1.1 million followers currently. His most popular piece of illustration now stands at a staggering figure of 600,000+ views. His illustrations are always simple, usually featuring personified animals with notable characteristics. The touch of humour in his art is unmissable, providing a daily dose of positive energy for his fans and visitors.
6 new pieces of illustration have been specifically created for this exhibition with elements of Hong Kong and will be revealed in Gallery by the Harbour, including witty scenarios with giraffe and crocodile in school uniform, Kung Fu Sloth and Mr. Dim Sum reporting weather forecasts etc.
Apart from the new pieces, a selection of Keigo’s original drafts will also be shown for the first time, carrying his creative thoughts. The paper scripts and the freestyle sketches will lead visitors into the world of Keigo’s imagination.
A minimalistic and delicate touch is apparent in these re-created early works Keigo has specifically selected, adding a new dimension for the audience to ponder.
The fabric panel “Group Photo”, printed and sold only within Japan, became an instant bestseller and was gone in a matter of days. Now visitors in Hong Kong will be able to feast their eyes on the only signed editions from Keigo’s personal collection.
Don’t forget to read Keigo’s handwritten letter and pick up some merchandise including tote bags, postcards and stickers limited to the exhibition. You will be able to take home all these lovely collectibles that demonstrate Keigo’s humour and positive attitude towards life.
