LOEWE celebrates new year with a special collection paying homage to Chinese crafts in the Year
of the Snake.
Honoring Chinese craft to celebrate the new year has become an annual LOEWE tradition. Following collections that pay homage to monochrome ceramics and jade, this year’s collection is inspired by the ancient art of Chinese cloisonné. Traditionally used in the royal
court, Chinese cloisonné is a decorative enamel technique characterised by its vibrant colours, intricate forms, and unique manufacturing process, in which precious metal wire enclosures are shaped into patterns and motifs and filled with coloured glass paste.
For the Year of the Snake, the house has partnered with Master of Chinese Arts and Crafts and third-generation enameller Xiong Songtao to create two sets of cloisonné works: a Nest bag with snake head and lotus cloisonné details as well as necklaces with cloisonné pendants featuring the auspicious snake, monkey and cloud motifs. Cloisonné also inspires ready-towear, shoes, accessories, and a series of special edition bags. New clutch bags take the shape of a cloud and a coiled snake, while the iconic Puzzle bag and Pebble Bucket are animated with 3D effect clouds and jewellry-like snake chains.
