Gallery by the Harbour at Harbour City presents a joint exhibition by two recent graduates of The Wharf Art Scholarship Scheme graduated from their university studies recently.
To be held from 18 February to 6 March this year, “Stargazers” is another major exhibition aiming to showcase to the public Hong Kong’s young local artists with great potential. The two graduates are:
This exhibition highlights the two graduates’ works in the past five years, which are in diverse media covering hand paintings, digital designs and installations. Named by the graduates, the theme “Stargazers” is inspired by Stargazy pie, a Cornish traditional dish made of baked sardines along with eggs and potatoes, covered with a pastry crust. Its unique feature is the fish heads protruding through the crust and appear to be gazing to the stars.
The theme mirrors how the two graduates embody their work: the attempt in manifesting their ideals in a sea of abstract meanings, whilst remaining embedded and grounded in realistic contexts. Stars represent a neverending flux and a paradox of absence and presence in their practice. The strength of consistent work and constellation does not only represent the artists’ thought, but also leaves rooms for audience’s imagination.
The Wharf Group always strives to promote youth art education and development. Over the years, The Wharf Art Scholarship Scheme has been established to support talented and hard-working students with their universities’ studies and dreams pursuit. The Wharf Art Scholarship Scheme will continue to encourage and support students to foster inspiring and engaging works with their creativity and bring positive energy to the society in various art-forms.
